LANDSCAPING

This can take the form of a simple Hard garden Landscape using some architectural paving and plants in pots, all the way up to a full garden landscape designed by an Architectural landscape specialist, this is almost always dependant on your personal requirements and ability and development design, type, size and characteristics.

Hard garden landscapes are normally a quicker way to achieve a desirable low maintenance scheme and can take the form of  driveways, patios and paths etc., which can be achieved at it’s easiest using a multitude of loose stone, chipping's, pea gravel, slate etc., and can add a variety of different and interesting textures and colours to your development and so long as it has been laid onto a properly prepared sub-striate and drainage with a suitable permeable membrane laid and fixing kerbs as required, will mean that a rake over occasionally and clearance of leaves will be the largest work involved, though this will of course depend on area.

The next step up is to lay flags, tiles, brick or block pavings which once again require the correct preparation of the ground, weed prevention systems and suitable drainage with the inclusion of falls of at least 1:60 away from the building, this system requires more preparation and must be excavated to the correct depth, lay 75 - 100 mm hardcore (fines), bed edgings into 100 mm concrete as required (dependant on use), 50 mm course sand and compact to finish at levels required for laying the block pavements, work out your pattern for laying the blocks, bricks, cobbles (note that cobbles are more specialist and will take much longer to lay correctly and should be mortar fixed for vehicle use)

Lay the blocks or bricks tightly together, brush fine kiln dried sand between the joints, use a plate vibrator to compact the blocks/bricks and finally brush more fine kiln dried sand between the joints. This system produces excellent results and can be bought in a multitude of textures and colours to suit your development.

Of course there are the planting schemes which can take a multitude of forms and dependant on your abilities, knowledge and taste may require the use of good gardening books, of which there are many for all tastes and styles, alternately if you cannot make the decision then an Architectural Landscaping consultant can be employed to design your dream garden, with a good landscape gardener it can be achieved, again this can take the form of  patch planting up to a full garden landscape scheme, but whatever you choose, if carried out professional will enhance your development be it a house extension, conversion or new house build or even any commercial development.
