VALUE ADDED TAX

One of the most advantageous ways to recuperate VAT is to ‘self -build’ your new house or conversion of a barn etc, as the material costs can in most cases be claimed back, but it should be noted that this claim for VAT refund can only be made once, for which all VAT receipts/invoices and careful records must be kept together, all invoices must display the merchants/supplier’s VAT registration number, description of the item or service and price and if over £100.00 then it must also display your name and address, it is usually easier to set up some accounts with local suppliers/merchants, be aware of the above when ordering special deliveries from away of from other countries.

If you require any information regarding VAT refunds it is advisable to contact your local VAT Office, you can request a booklet “VAT for ‘do it yourself’ builders and converters”, or VAT Notice 719. Please note that not all items are claimable, speak to an adviser to seek clarity for as mentioned above you cannot claim for items missed.

Note that VAT authorities will guarantee VAT payments within 30 days of receiving all completed forms from you of your financial agent, as long as all is in order and their are no discrepancies
